If you're lucky enough to live somewhere that doesn't have horrendous traffic, then you can skip this post. However, for those of us who live in places like L.A., where a one-way commute from the office back home could be well over an hour, then something like the eDesk might be helpful. It attaches to your steering wheel and provides a small desktop in your car. Hopefully, you would only use it when traffic is a complete standstill. Or by your carpool-mates in the backseat.Though the original site (in Japanese) seems to showcase the eDesk more for work activities, i.e. as a place to put a laptop, we do see how this could be useful when you've missed dinner at home and are relegated to drive-thru on your commute. Double Double Animal Style, "eat in the car!"
I haven't seen the eDesk available anywhere except off their site in Japan.

on the serious side though, i'd be really afraid of what i'd see going on behind the wheel with the addition of a tray table. i see some pretty horrific things as it is, and that my be too much temptation. can you imagine some older woman, (i am one so i can say it) trying to finish her sudoku, while she talks to her kids on the phone and eats her bacon, egg biscuit? oh yeah while applying her mascara.... scary!!!!!!!!!

Your airbag deploys, and the handy dandy "edesk" shoots through your body and cuts you clean in half! And you become another nominee for the Darwin awards. :-) Gotta love it!

(The sad thing is I can also see that person suieng the company..and winning....)

It bothers me every time my husband, who is American, drinks coffee while driving. Not only the car gets dirty, but it can also cause a terrible accident.

This would be so distracting while driving.
Just look at the picture - the steering wheel is actually partially 'blocked' by the drinking cup. You would have to reach/stretch over the tray to drive with your hands/arms at an un-natural angle.
Not only is this dangerous - it should be outlawed in this country. There are enough people not paying attention on the roads as it is. Thank you Japan!!!!!

Don't you think it would tip over if you tried to turn?

I hope You are joking about this eating tray, I spent 7 days in ICU from getting hit from behind with a 62000 pound milk truck after being stopped in traffic for five minutes, The nut at the wheel spilled his coke in the seat and he was cleanng it up, again you have to be Joking right? If not I am scared all over again.
