Are Ben and Jerry bad to chickens?

ben & jerry'sAccording to the Humane Society, Ben & Jerry's has been buying eggs from a company that mistreats chickens. In fact, the Humane Society wants to expose the ice cream maker for its hypocrisy, claiming that Ben & Jerry's mission of "a continued commitment to incorporating wholesome, natural ingredients and promoting business practices that respect the Earth and the Environment," is in direct contrast to "the reality that Ben & Jerry's is actually supporting cruel and inhumane treatment" of animals.

The Humane Society said that despite finding that Michael Foods, an egg farm in Minnetonka, MN, had chickens that were dying of starvation, sick or injured chickens were caught in cage wires, and live chickens were among the dead ones, Ben & Jerry's continued to buy up to 30 million eggs a year from the company.

they aren't the brightest animal, so they don't really separate themselves when in distress.

they also fight and kill each other, so unless B&J have like a "chicken waiter" to check on each chicken every 15 minutes, you are going to have a few in unfortunate situations.

Also, if the chickens each lay 1 egg every day, 30m = 80k chickens per year. that's alot of birds.
