8-25-2006 @9:28AM sharon said... I plan on tasting the Montepulciano. It doesn't surprise me that no CA wines made the list. I find them to be too strong in alcoholic taste for my liking. It's my understanding that longer growing seasons = more sugar in the grape = more alcohol in the wine. Wine is so subjective, we like what we like!

Some really interesting ones are being produced that are lovely, defintely cost over $10, and get extremely high ratings in various wine publications. I'd take a gorgeous screw-capped Austrialian or Spanish red any day over some awful American corked varieties.
