Even though we already looked at some great commercials made in the 1980s, a post on TV Squad about a ketchup commercial starring a young, hip, ketchup-loving Matt LeBlanc is a good reminder that there were a fair number of entertaining commercials made then. Many were from Heinz, which ran a number of commercials touting how thick and rich its ketchup was - before people started to complain that it was so thick that they couldn't actually get it out of the bottle.
In these next commercials, two more hipsters demonstrate a sense of patience and impeccable timing while waiting for ketchup. In this woman's commercial, Heinz's thick texture is again praised. What runny ketchup were these people using before Heinz?
Looking back a bit further, a scary 1970s ad for Heinz steak sauce depicts a big-haired, adult Goldlocks narrating her father's dinner... which he obtained by breaking into the mayor's house.
And since we're on the subject of condiments, "would you have any Grey Poupon?" The question is what made this mustard commercial memorable (since it was parodied so many times), but the tagline for the product at the time was decidedly uncatchy phrase "it even has wine."
