I posted about McDonald's Talk, a LiveJournal community of McD's employees, back in March, but I hadn't looked at it lately. Fast Food News recently posted an excerpt from a list of "things not to do when visiting a mcdonalds" created by McDonald's employee in Louisiana and recently posted on McDonald's Talk. Perhaps my favorite of the nearly 50 subtle suggestions is: "Does this look like Toys-R-Us? Who cares if your kid's got 10 of the same toy already. That's telling me you don't feed them at home enough!" Some commenters to the original LJ post even included links to their own lists of McDon'ts, like this one. Some 'McRules' for McDonald's

So happy to know that McD employees think it's okay to get orders wrong, that customers are responsible for memorizing the menu, and that the restaurant isn't *really* open its full operating hours if that's inconvenient for the crew.

Honey, here's a good start. Put the change in my hand first, then put the bills on top of the change. Once you can begin to manage the simple act of handing change back, then maybe you can actually get a job somewhere where people won't bother you.

I have been searching high and low for the perfect training campaign and I think I found it! If we ever wanted to gross-out, anger or make enemies of our guests, we found our Ambassador! We all have pet peeves in our workplace, (God knows there are times!)
but the guest and his "brats" and their money make it possible for you to say "I work at McDonald's". Maybe that means nothing to you, maybe you see this as a dead end job, but a great many of us make a nice living because we play by the rules and treat each customer like a guest. No, some do not always treat us like human beings, but those people get theirs in the end.It is not for me to exact their punishment for disrespecting me. Bad things happen to people who do bad things. I get over it! Then McDonald's rewards me for my wonderful service and sales increases because I lead my crew by example with courtesy toward every guest, and they keep coming back!I bet your store manager would love to get a look at this article. Walker , Louisiana , was it? Your kids will want a happy meal one day, I hope you are not afraid to buy them one because this is how you think everyone feels... that we are all rude, inconsiderate, unhygienic, food-contaminating, conniving, vindictive, little snots with no conscience who hate everyone!

I wonder if McDonald's management will respond to the fairly widespread publicity (http://consumerist.com/consumer/top/43-things-not-to-do-at-mcdonalds-192418.php) this list has received.
Hmm. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like there's only one McDonald's in Walker, LA, and it's the one at:
27951 Walker Rd S
Walker, LA 70785
(225) 665-2829
How many Joannas (http://www.myspace.com/ginontherocks) (Annas, Nunnies) do you think they have working there?
(Just incidentally, here's a form to contact (http://www.mcdonalds.com/app_controller.custsat.custsat_form.html) McDonald's about a specific restaurant.)

a) If you advertise a toy, have the toy.
b) learn how to count and make change before running a register. (I lived in exile for a while in the area that had to have picture menues on the registers because the locals could not count anything more than their fingers). When my first was born the first words from my wife were "Can we move now? I want the kid to be able to read!" (Charleston, SC)
c) When a parent with a kid expecting a toy of the current advertised whatever when the parent allows the kid to pick a dinner place (please don't give me grief on this - was every other week at best) and you have the posters everywhere, don't grouch when I ask to speak to your manager to ask him why when I specifically ask before ordering if the xxx toys are available and you LIE and say "yes they are" and we find out that you have run out and are stuffing whatever into the kid's meals.
d) When I show up and order a meal, I expect it in a standard fast time - not because the manager was too drunk and a teenager had to take over the whole operation, causing a 1/2 hour delay - and not being upset because a call to corporate had a regional investigator in the place BEFORE OUR ORDER CAME UP! And I do not expect any grief because it was a sunday morning and the regional inspector was woken up from his sleep because I just happened to know a VP from the corporate office.
e) service is everything. You Clots.

Yes many things can and do go wrong in the day to day operations of these types of resturants but that is no excuse for horrible service. I rarely visit McDonalds or any other fast food place due to the fact it is bad service for a high price. Managers: please teach your crew to be human beings, as your customers are. Customers: please realize that often this type of job is someones first and they may or may not be trained well.

I don't indulge in fast food all that often myself (my weakness is Popeye's Chicken), but how dumb can someone be to post these things in a public forum, on the internet and think that no one's going to see it or care about it?

I've worked in my fair share of restaurents, clothing stores, book/music stores, etc. for summer jobs and while I go to college. I've learned that the easiest way to get any kinda of tip is to be happy and smile and give the customer what they want even if I think they're off their rocker. And if you are always happy and smiling it will rub off on your customers (or guests) and then they're happy which makes your job easier. If you have this much trouble then find another job. And I totally agree about how to hand change back. (Coins first then bills.)

I worked at McDonalds for a year and 8 months and you can get mad at us for not having the toy that is advertised, just express your anger towards mcdonalds or the store, but don't start insulting ME because it is not MY fault. Several things can affect my hearing, the crappy speakers, your car engine, the freeway in the background, or you not speaking clearly, so if I ask you to repeat what you said, it is so I can get your order right for you. (That is for people like me who have English as a first language, if they ask you to repeat because they dont speak english, then you have a case.) If you start tipping, I will start busing your table, but until then, it is customary for you to take care of your own trash. Yelling or complaining to me will not get you your food any faster. If the fries are cooking, I cannot give you any fries until they are cooked, and there is nothing I can do about that. I have to take money and orders at the same time, so if you have a special request and I am taking money from a customer at that moment, don't complain if i tell you to hold on while I find out. Change is legal tender, so hand me all the change you want, but don't look at me weird or complain if I count it. YOu are not the one who gets in trouble if the drawer is short money. And remember, most things, like us not having ice cream, a toy, a menu item, is not my fault, so complain to me about it all you want, but that won't change it, I don't have the power to change it, and it isn't my fault so complain, but don't insult Me personally for what I have no control over.
