At first glance, especially with this interior photo, this fruit looks like a cantaloupe. It's not. It's an orange-flesh honeydew melon. I first spotted these unusual yellow-skinned melons at the market this week. They were simply labeled "Orange Flesh," not as a distinct type of melon, but they smelled delicious, so I thought I would give them a try. Apparently, another name for these is the Temptation Melon and they are actually a hybrid between cantaloupes and honeydews. It has a smooth, thin yellow skin and a creamy orange interior that is both juicy and sweet - combining the defining traits of both melon types, though it actually tastes more like honeydew than cantaloupe. I highly recommend picking one up if you can find them.

The orange flesh honeydews are delicious. I bought an orange and a regular green honeydew at the same time. The orange flesh honeydew had twice the flavor of the regular melon!

There is also an orange flesh melon that looks like a striped cantaloupe. It tastes more like cantaloupe than any other melon but the flesh is a darker shade of orange that regular cantaloupe and it is definitely sweeter.
I love all the variety melons that appear in the produce section of the markets this time of year. My favorites are the Juan Canary and Santa Claus melons. Very tasty and juicy.

Yes! I bought a honeydew and was shocked to cut it open to find the inside orange in colour. I went back to the shop the next day and asked the shopkeeper about it. Indeed it was a honeydew. I prefer the texture of the regular honeydew but the orange honeydew has a sweeter aroma and flavour.

Wouldn't that be confusing? An orange-fleshed honey dew looks a lot like cantaloupe, you know. I'm not
complaining, I love melons, the more, the merrier.
