It's no secret that I love Egg McMuffins - so much that I make them at home, and still would rather hop in my car, pull up to that old familiar golden arched drive-thru, and order one from the original.
And so, along with the McDonald's Corporation, I honor Herb Peterson, the man who invented the Egg McMuffin 35 years ago out of frustration with McDonald's for not opening until 11 AM. In his hometown of Santa Barbara, CA, he created the Egg McMuffin, based on his own favorite breakfast, Eggs Benedict. This week, he received McDonald's highest accolades with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Peterson is even responsible for helping to design Ronald McDonald's costume (which is based on a NASA spacesuit), and the first national ad slogan.
What a man.
