Coke Blak: a second opinion

Coke BlakNicole has already given her review of Coke Blak, a few months ago. She really liked it. I finally tried to new drink last week, so I thought I'd give my review too.

First off, it wasn't easy finding the drink. I found the four packs at a lot of supermarkets, but I've never been one of those people that takes one bottle out of a six pack, and I never wanted to spend the money on an entire four pack, so I always passed. Luckily I found a Walgreens in Boston that was selling individual bottles.

I wish I hadn't bought a single bottle either...

How to describe the taste. Well, imagine taking dozens of caramels and melting them in a bowl. Then you pour a bunch of sugar or Aspartame on top and mix it all together. Then you take Coke and pour it on top of the mixture. Fill a bottle with the stuff and then drink it.

In a word, it's hideous.

I'm tempted to say that Coke Blak, like a lot of food and drink, is "an acquired taste." Where you would acquire such a taste I'm not sure, but I couldn't even get past three sips of this stuff. It's so...so...out there in it's flavor. A strong caramel taste overpowers everything. I don't really taste any coffee in there. It's all caramel and Coke, and that's it. It's a think liquid, but somehow tastes really thick, if that's possible. It almost seems like you're supposed to mix it with water, to dilute it. But that's not the case. I remember drinking Zar-Ex straight out of the bottle when I was a kid. I didn't know you were supposed to mix it with anything. It was kinda gross, but I'd still drink that over this.

I'm disappointed this didn't taste better, but I guess there are enough other soda drinks out there to quench my thirst.

Let me preface this with I am not a coke drinker, but I am a coffee drinker.

My review:

It started off okay, I even may have commented that it wasn't good, but it wasn't bad. By the time I finished it the was like a diabetic Starbucks mermaid had urinated in my mouth.

If you mixed folgers instant crystals into coke, you could easily replicate that over-roasted burned espresso shot Coca-Cola company calls "the coffee essence experience."

Who is this drink for: People who have no fondness for cofffee, no tastebuds, and like to pay extra money for hip little bottles
Who is the NOT drink for: Everyone else with a normal set of chromosones.

I enjoyed my Coke Blak I purchased. I didn't find the drink thick (I wonder what happened that Walgreens was selling wayward single bottles?) or carmel tasting. I found it to be very Coke-like, with a sweet coffee aftertaste. Even so, I doubt I'll purchase more of it because I don't generally enjoy such sweet drinks. I am a coffeaholic--strong, straight-up, black, thank you.

I don't know whose idea that was, but I don't think there will be any Ka-Ching Ka-Ching at the cash registers for this abomination. Who were the taste testers out there? Homeless people who were desperate?

Classic is the best Coke product on the market. Didn't
they learn their lesson from the "New Coke" debacle
they forced upon us in 1985?

Everyone is not going to like everything that comes out NEW on the market. But as far as COKE BLAK I rather enjoyed it, especially if you put it in the freezer for awhile. The comment that it tasted like carmel and sugar. I'm sorry to say that persons taste buds are way off.
