A Veggie Venture emailed the UK's bloggers yesterday in an attempt to discover what this 'Made in England' piece of kitchen equipement is.
I have no idea at all. It has a funnel thing in the middle that looks like some sort of steam-type thingie; but then it's in a frying pan. And where does the water go?
I have just re-checked the Veggie Venture post. The answer is there if you need to look, posted by some kind soul who actually owns one. Wonder if she uses it?

I always wondered how on earth it was supposed to work, but apparently the infomercial would try to get you to believe that by convection or something, steam would perfectly fry your food, like fried chicken, without any need for oil. Only water. It doesn't make any logical sense, which is probably why you don't see the commercial anymore.

I wasn't paying much attention to those infomercials but I think that center column was supposed to be a venturi that created the convection effect on food "fried" without oil. Those infomercials haven't aired in the US for *years*.
Interesting that in England where it was made they had a different application that sounds much more convincing and useful.
