Back in March, Andrew wrote a post about a woman who was terrified of peas to the point where she couldn't even be in the same aisle with them when shopping. I assumed that that was a one-off incident and that an actual fear of a food product wasn't keeping many people awake at night. While I can't actually speak to what they do with their nights, there are more food-phobes out there and they are spending their days on national TV. I saw a link to this video while reading the Amateur Gourmet. The episode of Maury is titled "My Fear of Mustard and Pickles Is Ruining My Life."
The title just about says it all, doesn't it? Watch the clip above and you can see the girl (a waitress) with the pickle phobia visit a pickle factory before they attempt to cure her. You might want to turn the sound on your speakers down, too, as there is a fair bit of screaming involved.

When I saw this clip, it made me sick! Whether or not this woman is for real or just wanted attention on TV;
she is clearly unstable.
That Maury is so desparate, as to support this kind of irresponsible, degrading programs, is greed.
I didn't even know he still had a 'talk show'. So, Goodnight Mr Chung. That is really the only reason we still see this idiot on TV.

This is just a wild guess from me, but most likely she was probably killed with pickles in a past life as an animal and that fear of the "horrible smell" is probably what the soul remembers the most and is afraid of. She needs to conquer her fear in this life to move on.

Some people fear clowns, spiders and the unknown. Unfortunately for her she has found her phobia and it is an item that can be found easily and is not scary to others. Honestly everytime I see my ex husband I have the same irrational urge to puke and commit Harry Carry. Be gentle on your condemnation, you may one day find yourself alone with a pickle.

Now, she didn't mention allergy, just that the woman got sick or "detected" the cucumbers as she walked in the door. Apparently, something about the smell or whatever she detected bothered her. I always thought it was funny and then dismissed it.
Welll... fate being what it is, later in life I developed allergies to many substances. Not cucumbers, but other things. I now can walk in a house and detect mold, mildew, water, etc., and if I smell something very pungent, it makes me very sick. It's actually neurological. The brain overreacts to what it thinks is toxic, and it's very real. It's a form of neuropathy.
Soo, ladies and gentleman, the little girl (moi) who thought it was funny, doesn't think it's so damn funny anymore. It changed my life
Perhaps this girl has a response that even she is not aware of and it affects her "fear" centers in the brain. Thus, she isn't really afraid, but her brain is telling he so.
Stranger things have happened.
Now lighten up... Pickles anyone?
