Reese's Limited Edition Fudge PB Cups

I snagged a bag of these Reese's Limited Edition Fudge Mini Peanut Butter Cups yesterday while I was shopping at Target. Looking at the bag, there is nothing to indicate what precisely makes them "fudge" flavored and the illustration of the candy looked identical to a regular mini cup. I hoped that they might be dark chocolate coated and bought the bag ($2, on sale).

Unfortunately, the candies are not dark chocolate coated. Instead, they appeared to be identical to regular minis, but with a smell that had a stronger chocolate scent. The taste was basically unchanged, as far as I could tell, but a few people I gave them two commented that they seemed "creamier." I attribute this to the outdoor temperatures of more than 90F, then again, I am not a peanut butter cup expert. Perhaps Cybele could find a bag of these and give them a taste, as she did with the rest of the Reese's line.

I used to love Reeses cups, but recently they started putting pgpr in their chocolate, which is a workaround for candymakers to reduce the cocoa butter in their products while maintaining "creaminess" and not violating FDA rules.

It feels like American chocolate makers are moving towards what the British are doing in that they're gradually reducing the amount of cocoa butter in their products so they can sell it to the more lucrative cosmetics industry. The Brits use vegetable fat and we are using crap like pgpr.

Nicole, it appears to be packaging gimmicks again. I can't tell the difference in taste either. They're still Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. There's nothing wrong with them at all and I still love them for a treat. However, the packaging seems a bit deceptive.

I didn't try the Fudge miniatures, but I did try Reese's limited edition "bar" line ... stupidest brand extension EVAR.

The only benefit to the miniatures, as far as I can tell, is that the little cups might mean that your fingers stay cleaner when eating them.

What I was hoping was that the CENTER was peanut butter fudge ... now that would have been interesting.

Oh man I actually really liked the fudge it was a richer chocolate, and i've tried basically all of the reese's limited editions the best which is out now is the ones with caramel, they've lined the base with caramel then peanut butter on top and wow it is great.

It looks to me like there's more chocolate involved, especially on the top part, but maybe you need a comparison between the regular mini cups.
