Alton Brown hit the road for his new show

When I mentioned back in December that Alton Brown was working on a new show called Feasting on Asphalt, there was little information available other than the topic. A look at the updated information on Alton's website reveals that the show now has an air date: July 29th. The show will be a four-part series in which Alton eats "every kind of road food available," from Georgia to California.

While Alton said that he would "forage in the forest" as well as visiting homes and fast food joints on his journey, he probably didn't actually plan on "feasting on asphalt" along the way. The Food Network Star broke his clavicle during a fall from his bike in the Nevada desert. Ouch!

chef more than one cooking show was a good formula?
The Food Nwtwork has the market on overkill cornered.
Tyler Florence has, what 4 shows now? I may have lost
count somewhere. As you mentioned Rachel Ray has more
shows than you can shake a turkey leg at. I like Alton
on Good Eats. It's nice and simple and fun. I like Tyler as well, and it helps that he's cutie. Food Network probably is counting on the his looks to keep
viewers tuned in. Too much of a good thing can spoil
the thing, if you get my meaning.

If we're lucky, AB has patterned the new show after "No Reservations", and won't just spend time in or near the large Nielsen markets - though the fact that the press release explicitly mentions Las Vegas doesn't fill me with hope in that regard - it will be interesting to see how much time is devoted to each town.

I hope the "history" part is better-researched than the one episode of "Titans of Taste" that I watched, however - BK, Wendys, and McDonalds only, with no mention of the existence of any other (older or current) chains?

Granted, I'm judging just from the tiny subsite for it on the Food Network site and from second hand reports of him talking about it, but that's all I've got. I didn't think Food Network had demanded it of him or anything. I got the impression that it was something he wanted to do and was enthusiastic about. He does love riding and this kind of thing sounds right up his alley.

But everyone acts like this is the worst thing ever. Yeah, I hate it when a personality I really enjoy gets more exposure. Totally ruins them. How dare someone make AB move beyond his kitchen set!

Sarcasm aside, I'm really looking forward to this. It'll be cool to see Alton in a different setting. And on a bike :)

I would love it if it turned into four episodes a year. It may be more interesting if he got involved with a few of the big bike rallies such as the BMW National.
