Is it because it's summer? Festival-, fair-, and carnival-season?
Suddenly corn dogs are not only "hot," but they have been elevated from their mall food court status to haute cuisine, as corn dogs are appearing on menus of upscale restaurants in LA. Santa Monica's BOA Steakhouse uses Kobe beef hot dogs and serves them with the traditional condiments. Bistro retsaurant at uber-hip Chamberlain hotel in West Hollywood has single-bite chorizo corn dogs and at both Honey restaurant in Hollywood and new Republic, they are serving lobster corn dogs. I guess it's kind of the way macaroni and cheese was the "it" comfort food about two years ago.
I don't know. I kind of just want a Hebrew National dipped in corn batter and deep fried. Nothing fancy. Well, except for some super hot mustard.

Bravo should be please ... who knew that even "real" chefs would watch "Top Chef"? Didn't LeeAnn make something similar for one of the quick challenges?

"Top Chef" was the first thing I thought of when I read this post as well! I believe it was Tiffani who made chorizo corn dogs although Leanne might have made a seafood version as well...

The Coach Insignia restaurant on the 71st floor of the Renaissance Center in Detroit ( http://www.mattprenticerg.com/urc/coach.asp ) has a "Maine Lobster Corn Dog" on the menu that is one of the house specialities. I ate there twice during my last visit to Motown, and while I didn't try the corn dogs (I'm a vegetarian), I was quite pleased with the atmosphere, food, and service (esp. the wine staff).

Wow, not often I can say this, but Denver is ahead of the trend. A restaurant here, 240 Union, has had lobster corndogs on their menu for years. At least three, probably more. I think they are usually on the fall/winter menu, though.
