A flock of hot wings in Spokane

buffalo hot wingsIs it just me or is it getting hot in here?

It's definitely heating up in Spokane, Washington, where Tom Bowers has put together a list of places that serve Buffalo hot wings. Over the last month, he sacrificed the health of his GI tract, trying 25 different kinds of wings at seven places. He has reviewed the restaurants and has rated them for their Flame Factor.

In case you need to know now, yes, he went to Hooters, and unfortuantely, they only rated a "1" on the Flame Factor. The other six places Tom reviewed are:  Heroes and Legends, The Screaming Yak, The Globe Bar and Grill, Wingers, Flamin' Joe's, and Northern Lights Brewing Company, this last one producing an "endorphin high [that] lasted for hours."

I think my ulcer's healing.

By the way, I'm going to talk to our Web team because the print version had two sets of ratings: one category for the flame factor, the other averaging flavor, meatiness and value into one category.

And, in case you're wondering, Hooter's ranked a "1" in both catecories.

I served the "insanity" wings to a customer who had been disappointed with "northern" wings in general. (he was from Tx). He loved them!! couldn't finish them, but that was beside the point.
It's about time Spokane gets some credit for something--besides not being on the "right" side of the state. Thanks Tom, and thanks Sarah! for posting this!

The hottest Hooters hot wings are 3 mile island, not 911.
The taste is mostly the same, but quite a bit hotter. Still not the hottest i've ever had, but will definitely make your eyes water. In many places, they aren't on the menu, but the waitresses know about them.

Secondly. their drumsticks are great if you're like me, and like fried chicken skin better than chicken meat.

Thirdly, looking at the prices of some of those places, $0.60 per chicken wing at Hooters vs $1 or more per chicken wing at some of the other places makes Hooters a no-brainer in terms of value.

so there's 3 reasons right there to go to hooters, which i still feel dominate regular bar wings and Buffalo Wild Wings, but have never tried any of the other places you mention, so no direct comparisons there.

We specifically asked for the hottest wings they made, and they gave us what they called the 9-1-1. I feel cheated if they didn't give us the real deal.

In terms of value: If there's no meat on the bone, and they taste nasty, it's not a good value. They'd have to give them away to make it worth my while.

But it's a matter of taste. It makes sense that you'd like them, if you prefer fried skin to cooked meat. I prefer meaty wings (or drums and thighs) with a fresh, balanced sauce and attention to (food) presentation.

Although, I do prefer the 3 mile island wings because of its flavor. As for being the hottest, I hear there are hotter wings in Spokane. Is that what really matters, though? If so, you can order buffalo wings from just about any pizza delivery place. Now put those pizza delivery guys in some hot orange shorts and Hooters has some competition.
