I like my hamburger and hot dog buns to be lightly toasted when possible. Usually, I will simply open them up and toss them onto the grill while the dogs cook. If I'm not grilling, I just eat the buns plain. I have never put a hot dog bun into the microwave to attempt to achieve a "bakery-fresh" texture and, even if I did so, I would certainly not put the hot dog in the bun before microwaving it. In my experience, microwaving does nothing to improve the texture of bread and having an unheated hot dog in it would help even less.
As such, I fail to see the appeal of Oscar Meyer's newest product: Fast Franks. Three hot dogs are packaged in buns and, when you're read to eat, you just put the whole thing in the microwave. Oscar Meyer says that Fast Franks are "mouthwatering to imagine." I'm imagining, and I have to disagree.

My imagination concurs with yours. Call it any way you like it, microwaved buns just have no appeal for me. I like my buns lightly toasted, same as you again.
One of my favorite ways to eat hot dogs is from the electric dog roller. Yes, the same kind that 7-11 stores use. I leave the pups on for at least an hour. Two is better. The taste is 100% dog and it's hot all the way through with no wrinkling or bursting.
I once zipped into a 7-11 when I was on the run. I grabbed a dog without looking closely. Grabbed a bun and stuck the dog in it. Started to take a bite and realized the d@#% dog was cold! As in partially frozen! The "genius" behind the counter said, "So? I just put'em in." I stated that he could have been courteous enough to warn me that they were cold. "Why should I. You got eyes."
I haven't been to a 7-11 for a dog since. I think I will give Fast Franks just as wide a berth.

It's all individual taste, isn't it?

In a lazy teenage moment, I microwaved a hotdog in it's bun. Some sort of interraction between the gelatin skin of the 'dog and the sugary bun resulted in the two items welding themselves together. Then the steam from the 'dog turned the interior of the bun to mush, while the outer surface of the bun became completely dessicated - it clunked when I put in on my plate.
It was like eating a rock full of wet tissue paper and hot-dog.
What will really make my eye twitch is when I meet someone who likes these.

Does anyone remember the ballpark franks that were mini and came in a bun and a package. To me those were better than these, but since they stopped making the ballparks I can't do a side by side test.
