The San Francisco Chronicle did a taste test of pure pomegranate juices, more and more of which have been finding their way onto shelves and into refrigerators in grocery stores as the antioxidant-rich fruit gains popularity. Their tasting only dealt with the pure juices (not blends) and tasters picked POM Wonderful as their favorite, over brands like L&A, Langers, Frutzzo, Knudsen and Trader Joe's. The brilliant jewel color of the juice was mentioned several times by tasters, but the "blend of sweet and tangy" flavor won over 4/5 of the panelists.
Pomegranate juice, particularly POM, isn't cheap and sells for around $3.99 for 16-ounces. While it won against other pomegranate juices, is it really worth buying over other kinds of juice from a taste perspective?
I liked the blueberry-pomegranate blend more than the pure pomegranate juice, myself, and I still think that I'd much rather eat some actual pomegranate than drink either of the beverages.

I have neighbors who are more than willing to share their pomegranates fresh off the tree. They don't like the fruit to get too ripe and fall off the trees in their yards.

Wouldn't mind trying that tea though...I love litchee.

Especially in clothing you intend to keep.
Aside...to the previous poster. You don't have to be a wealthy yuppie who thinks that eating healthy foods to 'live forever' to purchase said juice.
It is pretty inexpensive at Whole Foods, compared to buying it at a local grocery chain. And I who am SUPERFRUGAL (says my costume) and love a bargain, snatch it up whenever I can...again for the fact that I mentioned above...I mean really...have you ever really fought with a pomegranate? I do it all the time...no bueno.

I purchased Langers (All Pomegranate at Costco, POM (100% Pomegranate) at Safeway, and Frutzzo at Whole Foods. Frutzzo has an Organic 100% Pomegranate, but also a Natural 100% Pomegranate that was not mentioned in the article.
My co-workers and I (we work for Microsoft) did our own taste test. The results were as follows: #1-Pom Wonderful 100% (33% + 8 first place votes), #2-Frutzzo Natural 100% ( 32% + 7 first place votes), #3-Frutzzo Organic 100% (30% + 8 first place votes), #4 Langers All (5% + 1 first place vote).
Frutzzo Organic Pomegranate was the only juice that did not add Natural Flavors. Langers adds Flavors and Citric Acid (preservative).

When Fruitzzo showed up in Publix last year, I tried it and we switched to this brand. I like that it is in glass bottles. My family loves this juice. Thanks for you time. Adair

So that they can make health claims about their products, POM pays for experiments that cause brain injuries and hardened arteries in mice. Welch’s have recently made the switch to cruelty free and along with a whole host of juice companies, they prove that compassion rules; animal testing is not necessary! Take a second to check out this action alert and tell POM Wonderful that until they STOP testing on animals, you’ll be boycotting their products and telling all your friends about it too!
Thanks!

Is POM juice laced with sanitizers healthy for you?
I have been drinking POM pomegranate juice for some time – a year or more.
I buy the 16 oz bottles and then I started to buy the 46 oz glass bottles too – it was a better deal.
In late March 2006 I noticed the store that I frequent did not carry the 46 oz glass bottles. Then a 48 oz plastic bottle appeared the first week of April in the store that I frequent. So I bought some. When I drank it I got severely ill. It had the taste of some type of sanitizing chemical in it - CHLORINE.
I called the company in Los Angeles, CA and spoke to Darelee, Consumer Advocate and she told me that they were having a problem with the bottles coded 11 JUN, that cleaning solution was not poured out of the bottles during production, that in the past few days over 25 people have complained since late March early April, that everyone at corporate HQ tasted it and were fine and it will not hurt you, she did not know what the chemical was and to continue buying POM just do not but the 48 oz bottles coded 11 JUN.
A day later, Fiona, VP Corporate Communications called me and offered me coupons. I asked her what I drank? She said she did not know. I asked her what sanitizers they used in the production process – plumbing, holding tanks and bottles. She said she did not know. I asked her the name of the company that supplies POM with sanitizers. She said she did not know.
I have called Fiona several times and e-mailed her several times and she still says she does not know. Some VP of Corporate Communications. So I turned them into Poison Control, the FDA, the Attorney General of Pennsylvania and California and numerous other agencies.
The FDA is investigating POM.
I have an unopened bottle of that swell and I am currently having it tested by a lab. I am considering a legal remedy too.
My health and well-being were compromised due to the negligence of POM. They knew there was a problem and continued to sell their tainted juice when that swell should have been recalled.
Drink POM juice at the risk of your health!

It is available at many Kroger Stores and online at www.fruitfast.com This seems to be the most inexpensive way to get the benefits of pomegranates and you can mix the concentrate into many different drinks.

POM funds research that hardens the arteries of animals, induces brain injuries, and causes painful ulcers. All so it can claim questionable "health benefits" in humans. Is it worth it? Is this how you want you money spent? Please, for the animals, drink something that isn't used for their torture and death. Tell POM to go test themselves. Contact: FPosell@pomwonderful.com to let her know how you feel about using juice as a weapon. On behalf of the animals, thank you!

POM Wonderful tastes great, but it is pretty expensive. A friend of ours owns a bar in town and he uses Old Orchard Pomegranate juice for his martinis. It is like half the cost of POM Wonderful and it is not quite as tart. The bottle is pretty big (like a Ocean Spray bottle size) and it is around 6 bucks.
