I've never thought of pizza as something for which I'd go out of the way, but apparently, I have proven myself wrong by driving down two half-baked Chicago-style pizzas from Zachary's in Berkeley to Los Angeles. I guess that might make me hard kor.
But hard kor-ness with respect to food isn't such an anomaly just around here. Joystiq-er Vlad Cole made the cross-town trek from downtown Los Angeles during the dinner rush just to pick up Abbot's Pizza for his tribe of gamers in town for the E3 Conference. Now that is love. There's no lack of pizza places in downtown Los Angeles, and there are certainly many more in nearby neighborhoods, but apparently, Abbot's Pizza Company all the way in Venice is worth the drive and the traffic. Actually, I understand. Abbot's, with their "bagel-crust," is pretty awesome.
How far would you go for pizza?

They make one pie all day, and that's what you get. When we drove by the joint on our last visit there were people lined up down the block.
I would also go as far as my kitchen, where my decidedly low-rent (but still plenty yummy) $2/pie Tony's Cheese pizza is cooking as I write these words.
I like pizza, and I'm not picky.

For good pizza I'm willing to take a 1.5-hour subway trip and then wait 40 minutes, even though I might wind up eating only three slices. I've also been known to take trip to New Haven for a great clam pie.

I'd go about three miles, to New Haven, CT, where Pepi's, Sally's, and Modern Pizza are considered among the best pizza in the world by Gourmet Magazine (and locals). Brick ovens do make a difference. Or I can go about two blocks to Zupphardi's Pizza in West Haven, also recognized by Gourmet. Not as good a crust, but overall at least as excellent.
Just bragging.
