For the last year or two, give or take, M&Ms Australia has been selling white chocolate M&Ms. I like white
chocolate, but I wouldn’t ordinarily go out of my way to pick some up and I didn't expect to like these when
I first saw them. A few pieces later and I was hooked. They have the same, familiar candy shell as the classic
milk chocolate candies, but lighter in color and filled with a smooth white chocolate. The chocolate was very creamy and
made a perfect contrast to the crisp coating. They were a bit sweeter than regular M&Ms, but they were also
more satisfying.
Much to my chagrin, the M&Ms Australia discontinued them and I was left without a source. Until now, that is, since Joe posted yesterday about the American release of white chocolate M&Ms! This pretty much confirms my suspicions that the Australian release was part of some test-marketing scheme for the US-based company and I’m glad to see that they’re bringing them back.

I'm guessing they're real white chocolate (cocoa butter instead of hydrogenated tropical oils) ... which sounds good to me.
If they decide to make them a regular item, I hope they don't keep the name "Pirate Pearls" I'm not sure I can handle buying something called that, let alone referring to them that way.

Haha, I kind of think "Pirate pearls" is cute. Kitschy marketing aside, these sounds amazing! For some reason, I thought only the shell would be white chocolate, but what you describe is infinetely better. I havent seen these yet but I'll be on the lookout :-)

I tried these for the first time today, and although good, weren't close to the dark chocolate ones they had around the time of the last Star Wars movie. Wish they'd bring those back.

I like the white chocolate m&ms...
i think it's a pretty funny movie tie in...but hey, if it gives us a white chocolate tie than that's absolutly wonderful!
Unfortunatly, that just means when Pirates of the Carribbean isn't being marketed anymore then they won't be available...i guess I'll have to decide if it's worth stocking up.
