It's that time of year again. That's
right, it's May, which can only mean that National
Barbecue Month, is upon us once more. As a member of a KCBS competition team and a rabid, I mean avid, fan of Southern barbecue, I must say I have a beef with the organizers of this promotion. See, it seems that the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association, is a trade group that manufactures grills and has no problem perpetuating the confusion among the general public regarding grilling versus barbecueing.
Well, I'm willing to put my barbecue bona fides aside and join the HPBA in their National Barbecue month. Especially since the Livestock Marketing Information Center just released some very good news for meatheads. Prices are at a record low. Retail beef and pork have hit their lowest level in three years, and chicken is at a four-year low. Time to clean out that Weber grill or offset smoker, as the case may be.
