Fruity frou frou drinks are not my thing, usually because they're far too sweet. However, I've
noticed a trend toward using ingredients in drinks that are typically thought of as "savory" like basil. I
just came across a recipe for a basil and lime sangria that would be perfect for a Latin-inspired fiesta.
Pour 1 bottle of extra dry Champagne or sparkling wine into a blender. Add 1 c. tightly packed fresh basil, 1 Tbsp. freshly grated lime zest, juice of three limes and 3 Tbsp of honey or simple syrup. Blend until smooth and serve over ice.

All I can say to the idea of basil and lime sangria is....YUUUUUMMMMMY! I'm making this over the weekend with basil from my garden. I'll let you all know how it turns out!

Blech! I made this on Saturday for my boyfriend....he said he felt like he was drinking pureed grass (despite the encouragement I offered that this drink contained alcohol!). Honestly, I have to agree with him -- while I at least managed to finish my drink, it did seem quite heavy on the blended basil (think: thick, green and slimy). Also, beware - fizzy champagne and blenders don't mix!
