A recent Pew Research Center survey of over
2,000 adult Americans found that only 39 percent enjoy eating "a great deal." (That is, they enjoy the act of
eating, not eating a lot.) This is 9 percent drop from the results of a 1989 Gallup survey. Many of the people polled in
the more recent survey attributed their lack of enjoyment to concerns about their weight. Interestingly enough, the
overall figures for enjoyment of cooking have stayed the same. Roughly one third of those surveyed said they enjoyed
cooking "a great deal." The number of men that enjoy cooking has increased, however, from 25 percent in 1989
to 32 percent today. The Pew site has plenty of other interesting figures concerning eating patterns, junk food
consumption and overeating. A Washington Post story on the survey results is available here.[Image: Pew Research Center]

"Fewer Americans enjoy eating, study says"
Is that a surprise considering the number of white trash people who think using Ding Dongs for a wedding cake is a good idea??

I think this is due to America's dependence on convenience foods (ie. fast food, pre-made meals, etc.), which are ok, but not delicious. And the presentation is often left wanting

What? Fast food is delicious! Were I able to eat more McD's, BK, and KFC, I'd enjoy eating much more. I'm sick of these salads.

Now a days, both men and women have full time jobs. Of course, "convenience food" is the way to go. There's no time to cook and if there is, no one wants to be the one to do it (especially the messy clean up)! Who can really enjoy greasy fries and a hamburger, when we all know nothing beats a good home cooked meal?

One of the reasons people eat less is because of the concerns about the obesity epidemic.I am in a wheelchair,am a type 1 diabetic, and have noticed I am eating much less but am gaining weight. There must be something going on other than our appetites to make our weights go up,and that something has removed the good flavors in foods, and the appeal to eat.
