Another great day in the annuals of British culinary endeavours - National Cheese on Toast Day is on the 27th April. Not a
cynical marketing campaign to sell more cheese - well maybe - but they also hope to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Relief charity. National events kick off in London's Leicester Square (quickly followed in my parents kitchen as my Dad does something unspeakable with pre-sliced bread and a slice of Cheddar). Because the day was created by Lancashire Cheese people they are going to rename Leicester Square as Lancashire Square. What jolly japes.
Lancashire producers will help create the world’s biggest cheese on toast, presumably under the world's biggest grill. They are also to hand out cheese on toast samples and hold cheese-making demonstrations. Bring your own cow.

I intend to celebrate this by eating as many different types of cheese melted onto toast as I possibly can.
I particularly like to add some sliced tomato, oregano, olive oil, and garlic salt and pepper underneath my cheese,
or indeed, mix some grated cheese, with a clove of crushed garlic and some mayonaise and sandwich between 2 slices of bread, and toast either side.
Hail cheese on Toast, you perfect snack!
