Yesterday, students at York, Pennsylvania's Locust Grove Elementary School doused their principal with hamburger toppings in an act of charity. A local supermarket chain offered to double the amount of money they normally donate to local schools whose principals did something "original and entertaining," according to the York Daily Record. Locust Grove principal Robert W. Shick (above) was one of five administrators chosen from hundreds of entrants. Shick sat on a hamburger bun as students covered him with all sorts of fixins, including lettuce, relish, ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise (shiver). "It felt very good between my toes," Shick told the YDR.

While this might be cute and get press, and I have seen similar stunts by other school administrators, I have seen much better mentoring by principals who keep their .. well you know.. principles, without the demeaning theatrics.
Dont mind me.
I just get tired of press that makes educators look like buffoons (and we homeschool, we think all educators should be respected, too few of any kind are)

Quite the contrary, Mr. Shick did not want this event publicized, but good-natured as he is, went along with it. This was part of a contest sponsored by Giant Food Stores. We get money from Giant for parents who shop there and use their bonus cards. For winning this contest and completing this "stunt", Mr. Shick has won the school double the money from Giant for the month of April. This extra money will be used to help fund a rock climbing wall for the school's all purpose room. I admire our principal for being willing to earn our school extra money no matter how silly he looks. He is a wonderful administrator and has earned the respect of students and parents alike. If you walk into Locust Grove, you'll find one of the happiest elementary schools around.
