The REAL secret menu at fast food joints

mcdonald's secretIf you live in southern California, or know someone who does, then you're probably familiar with In N Out Burger. And if you're really in the know, then you know all about In N Out's "secret" menu that isn't all that secret, since the company has it posted on their website. Protein burgers, grilled cheese, and "animal-style."

However, the real secret menu behind fast food joints will never make it to the customers, because they are creations that the cooks make for themselves after hours. We're not even talking about In N Out here. McDonald's employees, as posted on an employee blog, make their own "McBruschetta" using ingredients that are normally reserved for your Big Mac, et al - buns, tomatoes, sliced onions. They even do things like use pancake batter to make funnel cakes in the French fry fryer.

If you ever wondered why it smelled like a bakeshop when you were ordering Pizza! Pizza!, it might have been the cookie dough that Little Caesar was baking in the pizza oven.

If I were locked in a McDonald's kitchen at midnight, I wonder what kind of "creations" I could come up with.

Sometimes after hours, we would dip the fries in the onion ring batter and deep fry...they were awesome! We also would get corn tortillas used for deep frying and making taco shells but instead, we would fill them with cheese and steam them in the hot dog steamer to make great corn cheese enchiladas...mmmmmmmmmmm

At Domino's ... the best pizza was made with Buffolo wing sauce... yumm.

Such as making a banana milkshake with chocolate ice cream. Or using vanilla ice cream, and crushed cherries then putting in melted cone-dip, which immediately solidifies and makes nice little crunches. And my all time favorite from my position (lead cook) is the simple but great, nacho cheese on chicken tenders.

With all the multiple patty hamburgers, I'm kind of surprised nobody's put this on a menu yet, but chicken eaters tend not to be gluttons like I.

2. At the same time we were doing a peanut butter and banana smoothie promotion for Elvis Presley's birthday or something. It was this gooey liquid peanut butter stuff - I'd mix it with chocolate syrup, ice, and the simple syrup used for all the Julius drinks for a chocolate/peanut butter milkshake. Totally awesome.

3. Flat bread tossed in the deep fryer and strawberry julius fruit mixture plopped on top is precisely the same thing as a carnival elephant ear.

It's no wonder I gained 30 pounds that summer.
