Cosby got quite a surprise when she took the broccoli she bought the day before at Tesco out of her refrigerator.
Nestled amid the florets was a footlong snake.Cosby, who has a fear of spiders, was hysterical when she saw the European smooth snake. While the snakes are not poisonous, she's lucky it was only a baby. They're known to grow up to three feet long. Tesco has apologized to the family, and has assurances from its suppliers in Spain that this will not happen again.

I think that is a disgrace she should sue and they should pay her for pain and suffering i mean thats enough to make you never want to buy or eat broccoli again

I feel bad for the woman, but these things happen sometimes. It's impossible to check all produce for suspicious things, in the cases of both the consumer and the supplier. Suing would be unnecessary and just plain ridiculous.

Since the snake wasn't poisonous, finding it in the bunch of broccoli would have been no worse than, say, finding a dead mouse or knot of elephant sperm bundled with the tasty veggie. Perfectly harmless. I myself never shop at Tesco, primarily because it's about 3,000 miles from my home as the crow flies. But I wouldn't let a mere snake keep me from enjoying their other foods and services.

Brian should learn to use punctuation! Also, suing would be ridiculous. Things happen!

I am sorry that she found a snake in her broccoli and I am sure that it was scary, but not enough reason to sue! That is what is wrong today, everyone wants to sue everyone else just to make a quick buck. Stuff happens. Was she hurt? No. Did she eat the snake? No. Did the snake hurt anyone else? No. Can I sue for the pain and suffering I incurred while reading the post and replying to it?

She should def. get some sort of compensation for this. An apology is simply not enough. If this was in the US, I have no doubt she'd collect a nice amount of compensation for this scary event.

Suing for this is stupid. You people advocating a lawsuit for this is exactly what is wrong with the U.S. legal system. You are also the driving force behind the rising cost of health care of the loser attorneys with their commercials promising a check. You are trying to get a dollar for every little thing instead of working hard and actually becoming entitled to a paycheck. You people are also the reason for the stupid warning labels directing consumers to not drink bleach and so on.

Was it even alive? I don't see how long a snake could last in a refrigerator...

I would have served it baked over a bed of baby spinach spiced with ginger, garlic, sesame oil,soy sauce, marsala wine garnished with basil and lime juice.
As for suing, I wouldn't for an unintentional act of nature. The wayward snake probably misses home. I hope it found a new life for itself.

The only compensation this individual should receive is the additional cost she was chaged for the weight of the snake when she purchased the broccoli. This is the least the store should do. I am sure the store would not mind refunding this amount to her.

They should just give her a gift card to the store for furture purchases to compensate her. She shouldn't sue for something like that.

Finding a snake in your veggies was bad but my question is this....this incident happened in Britain, how did the United States come into play here? That's the problem with the Brits, they blame the U.S. for everything that goes wrong in their own country. Stand on your own two feet and leave the U.S. out of your comments.

I once got a hairy spider with a bunch of bananas I bought. It had made a cottony web/nest in the middle of the bunch.. euuugh! But you don't see me making a lawsuit or even a fuss about it, do you? I just threw that bunch away and got some new, spider-free bananas.

Is anyone else curious as to how you can buy some broccoli and not notice it containing a foot-long snake?
I guess there must be some opaque packaging involved . . .

I'm sorry this lady had to experience such a fright. But we all need to remember how fruits and vegetables grow and that at times we might have a visitor that we might not appreciate. Everyone is lawsuit happy lately. Things like this happen that are beyond our control. Experience it and get on with your life.

As an occasional Tesco shopper, I feel the information we are missing here is whether the broccoli was bought wrapped (the shop uses a transparent wrapping), in which case it would have been priced per unit, not strictly by weight; or loose - in which case she should certainly receive a refund for the weight of the snake. Except, except... HOW do you buy loose broccoli without noticing a foot-long snake in it?!

It is ashamed that this lady had to experience this. Yes, I think that she would be well within her right to sue. I don't think there is enough money to compensate her for this experience but it would help. What if she suffers some type of mental anguish. An apology is simply NOT enough. Thank you.

I AGREE SHE SHOULD GET COMPENSATED BY GETTING HER MONEY BACK OR FREE BROCCOLI FOR A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME AT LEAST FOR GETTING SCARED, WHICH IS PRETTY NATURAL BUT...... I THINK THE SNAKE GOT MORE SCARED OF HER IF SHE SCREAMED!
