Whoppers are candies with a chocolate coating over a malted milk center. They are almost identical to Maltesers, though fans of one will argue that it is better than the other. Maltesers are made by Mars, while Whoppers are made by Hershey. Around Easter, Whoppers adds a brightly colored candy coating to the balls and calls them Robin Eggs. Personally, I am a huge fan of the candy coating and look forward to picking up a bag of these around Easter. The extra crunch that comes before reaching the chocolate layer and melt-in-your-mouth malted center is great.
This year, I saw that Whoppers released a Strawberry Milkshake version of Robin Eggs. Instead of milk chocolate beneath the candy coating, there is a layer of white chocolate surrounding a strawberry-flavored malted milk center. Though they are a bit on the sweet side, the combination of strawberry and malt was perfect. I think that it would have worked with a milk chocolate, rather than the white, and ended up tasting like an ice cream sundae.

To compare these Hershey sweets with Malteasers is absolute blasphemy! It is like saying an American Milky Way bar is the same as an English Mars Bar! Ridiculous! They may look alike, but the taste is NOT the same. Whew! I;m glad to get that off my chest. Sorry, I love Slashfood, but I just couldn't let that go by with out a challenge.

Personally I'm a fan of Brach's brand malted milk eggs. Those are what I grew up on, and they're made particularly for Easter. Why buy Whoppers when I can get those any day?

Okay, Robin's Eggs...HANDS DOWN. Why? Not only do they taste better, but if you lick the coating, you can apply the dye to your lips like lipstick. Been doing that since I was a kid. There is nothing funnier than the blue ones smeared all over, making you look like an alien hooker. Or the white ones if you're going for a Dusty Springfield flashback. Who's with me?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!

COMPARING MALTEESERS TO WHOPPERS IS LIKE COMPARING. DIRT AND SAND. I WAS STATIONED IN ENGLAND FOR 2 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER TESTED ANYTHING LIKE A MALTEESERS THAT PUTS WHOPPERS TO SHAME. STICK WITH THE MARS CANDY THAT IS A REAL EASTER CANDY

I'm right there with you. The minute I started reading the review, I had a flashback of using the colors as lipstick!

I am such a fan of Hershey. Whoppers and robins eggs are my weakness !!!!! i love the candy coating that i peel off layers just to make the bag last longer. As a kid i would do the same smear the dye on my lips. I still do it just when no one is looking lol.

Robin Eggs--hands down! I really should not eat them being diabetic but this time of the year I cheat. They are irresitable with the extra candy crunch far better than plain old Whoppers (I cheat for these too) I like Peeps too. This is a great time of year for candy, way better than Halloween, Christmas or Valentines Day, candy-wise.

I also love both Whoppers and Robin Eggs, they are one of my favorite candies. When my siblings and I were little we would look forward to Robin Eggs in our Easter Baskets ao we could use the color coating to paint our lips. I make sure I get them every year and my kids know if they want them they can give them to Mom!

I prefer Whoppers to Robin Eggs because I do not enjoy the candy coating. This year, the chocolate coating on the Whopper tastes different. Was there a change? It tastes slightly fruity. I do look forward to trying the new Strawberry Whoppers.

Friday morning I gave my little group of lunchroom "pets" some Easter candy including Robin's eggs. I popped one in my mouth, popped it back out and rubbed the blue all over my lips. They laughed at their crazy lunchlady! But a few hours later they came thru the line in all their pastel-lipped glory, looking at me for approval! Gave them a thumbs up and some extra mashed potatoes! An Easter tradition officially passed on to the next generation!

not a comment on the candy shown here, but, if you're looking for fantastic Easter candy, try the fabulous whipped creme (NOT marshmallow) eggs made by Quality Candy out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. they come in light and dark chocolate, plain or in flavors, like amaretto, pina colada, maple, mint, and rasberry. you can only get the plain at their website, you have to call their warehouse for the flavors. Been a tradition in the midwest for 30+ years. i'm in Florida, now, and i miss them like crazy!!

I'm still waiting for someone to ask, "Who's Dusty Springfield?" *LOL*
I like the Robin Eggs because, like anything else good, you have to wait for a year to get them. The anticipation is exhilarating!!!
Now, to get back to my otherwise dull and dreary life *sigh*
