Who serves the best sushi in Los Angeles? Coming from New York--I moved here two weeks ago--I am determined to find out where to go for great sushi. Everyone I ask has a different opinion, but the majority of people agree that the small sushi joints, the ones tucked away in the strip malls, are the best. Earlier this week, I ate at Ike, located in Hollywood. It came strongly recommended from in-the-know LA foodies. They knew what they were talking about. The fish was amazingly fresh; the giant clam was shockingly good, and tasted just like the sea. Sit at the bar when you go.

and Sasabune on whilshire are easily the best sushi restaurants in LA.
If you want Japanese cuisine, Matsuhisha (sp?) is definitely the way to go.

The best sashimi I've ever had and some of the most innovative-in-an-authentic-way sushi i've ever had. Tell the owner there that Hunter Hicks sent you and he'll treat you like a rock star.

Their sashimi is ridiculous and the skills of the chefs are amazing. Tell kind and boisterous owner at the fron that Hunter Hicks sent you and he'll treat you like a rock star.

This place is AMAZING...inexpensive, so fresh (Shig, the original owners son, goes to the fish market every morning) and the absolute best spicy tuna anywhere.....I could eat it with a spoon.

it's go's mart in canoga park. but please don't tell anyone.
the place is half video store/half sushi bar and is lit like a laundromat. despite the low emphasis on decor, the chef is as talented and innovative (truffle oil, salt) as any i've ever tasted. get there early and let him decide what you're eating.

By far they have some of the most original rolls I've tried in a while including their Great White Shark (with white tuna) and their Volcano which is twice as large as a regular roll (white fish/salmon around avocado and crab) served up baked with Dynamite sauce. Google it, its in a lot of blogs.

In this case, the oyster happens to be strip mall, and the pearl is a giant clam, but in any case, I'll be following this food reviewer's career veeery closely. I suspect she's going places. Delicious places probably, preferably with me.

Service is awesome and Taku is wonderful behind the bar. A bit costly at $100.00 but well worth it. Ventura Bl. right off Corbin in Woodland Hills.
