What has happened to Iron Chef

iron chef

Perhaps you don't drink as much caffeine as I do, so you are able to fall asleep at a decent hour, say 10:00 PM. If that's the case, then you probably haven't noticed that the usual 11:00 PM broadcast of the original Japanese Iron Chef has disappeared from the Food Network.

I have looked all over the web for information, but nothing has turned up as to why. Only that it's gone.

Now I am not going to sugar-coat my distaste for the new Iron Chef America. Sure, I love that Alton Brown in the host, and the old Chairman Kaga's "nephew" is pretty hot when he does all that martial artistry, but I am not particularly fond of the show. Sure, I realize that the original Japanese version was completely contrived, but at least they pretended like it truly was a challenge. On Iron Chef America, it's just so...boring. And what happened to ingredients that would flop around on the stage like live eel, and creations like...seabass mousse?

At least the Food Network replaced the 11:00 time slot with Good Eats, which other than Paula Deen is just about the only thing I can watch now, but is little consolation for the loss of the brocade caped, leather glove-clad, Liberace of a Chairman, Kaga.

I didn't watch it every night, but it was one of the few things that my roommates and I could all watch together. I'd imagine within a year or so it will be back on every night, or at least once or twice a week. This has happened before.

Sarah, I am glad you raised the issue, but I am confused by one thing: Paula Dean?? Could you explain that one? Seriously. I'm interested.

I guess I must accept that at some point in my life, they will stop replaying ICJ, whether it's now or 20 years from now. I never really mind watching rerun after rerun, though. If they could put out a DVD a year of the series, I don't see how it wouldn't sell like crazy.

It appears that I'm rather late in inquiring about Iron Chef Japan, because I have ony just this past two weeks of searching for IRC every night at 11:00P.M., and then between favorite shows I'll check the TV Guide Channel (99). What do I do now? I miss watching Iron Chef Sakai's smooth charisma, and Iron Chef Chen Kenichi's kind and gentle face, but he is quite ferocious in the stadium; and Iron Chef Michiba, with his scowling countenance, but his so superb delivery of writing his menu first before executing his sublime creations.

Will they ever come back? I will await their return to the Food Network, whenever they will come back.

Is there any way to contact Chairman Kaga?

I also have to agree with Geoff, Paula Deen? Omg, she drives me batty! When she gets a huge stirring spoon and takes a BIG bite of something while she squeals like a pig and practically orgasms over it...I wanna smack her....seriously YA'LL. ICK ICK ICK!!!

I remember sitting down last month at 11:00 and it not being there. I was numb. They have been playing one a week about 3 or 4 AM. I TiVo them and save them for special occations.

How could they try to copy and make such a big deal about a show (IC America) and then drop the original one? I too am not a fan of IC America. I really miss Iron Chef and want it back!

As a broadcast program director in major markets, yes it's true and I am aware that they can do what they want as far as their schedule. But, their arrogance leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
