How do you say...savvy non blank?

pronunciation

We've snickered a little here before at Slashfood about how some of us pronounce some food words. Is it bro-SHEH-tah, or broo-SKEH-tah? Or do you just ask for the toast with chopped tomatoes?

MSN has a handy little list of popular food and wine terms adopted from other languages that some of us may be shy about saying out loud, with an easy pronunciation guide. Now, I'm pretty good with wines, and can even say Gewürztraminer and Pouilly-Fumé without blinking an eye. Those are simply from knowing the language from which they come. However, I have often wondered about such words that I often hear in multiple pronunciations: Is "endive" pronounced "AHN-deev," or "EN-dive?"

"Maht-suh-rehl-la?" Come on. "Far-fal-lay;" "moh-tzah-rehl-la". Of course, if you happen to be from New York, all the Italian words have different pronounciations anyway ("mut-zah-dell," "mon-a-got").
