Banana cream Twinkies

In honor of the release of the King Kong DVD, Hostess has released some limited edition Twinkies with banana cream filling. The combination of the moist Twinkie sponge cake and banana cream actually sounds like a really good idea. Did you know that banana was the original Twinkie flavor back in 1930? The cream filling changed to vanilla - now the standard - during World War II, when there was a banana shortage. The new banana Twinkies boxes also feature a contest to win a trip to Universal Studios in either Hollywood or Florida.  It is possible that if the flavor is popular enough, it might outlast the length of the sweepstakes.

Has anybody tried these yet? I have not seen them at my local grocery store yet.

And yes, I got the special King Kong box that says banana twinkies and even the inner wrappers say Banana Twinkies, but if I didn't know they were supposed to be, I probably wouldn't have noticed.

These Banana Twinkies are golden cake with banana cream, not to be confused with the Banana Twinkies I remember growing up, which were banana cake with vanilla cream. Seems those are only in Hawaii.

They tasted great before, and now they mostly taste like regular twinkies (bleh). I don't think I'll go for another box. Oh well, I don't need to be eating junk food like this anyway. :(

I called the number and the guy said they have gotten many calls about it. He also said he was afraid that there were going to be a ton of people getting the banana ones in regular packages soon.
