It's the day after St. Patrick's day - do you know where you left your green tights last night?!?!
Probably not. In fact, you don't even know where you just woke up right now and whose computer this is that you're using to read Slashfood! The only thing you do know, is that you have a killer hangover. Ugh.
Every person reacts differently to different alcohols, and as such, also responds better/worse/not at all to different hangover "cures." However, there is no doubt that you are thirsty. Sure, the thought of ingesting anything else in liquid form may send you doubled over back to the bathroom, but it's important to re-hydrate. Water is always a good, fresh solution, but there are others, with varying degrees of hangover help:
- Juices will probably re-hydrate you faster than plain water, and I don't know about you, but plain water the morning after actually makes me nauseated.
- Sports drinks like Gatorade are also a faster form of re-hydration. Don't think too hard right now because your brain is pounding, but it has something to do with electrolytes, okay?
- Milk and thicker creamier drinks help because they coat your stomach. Think Pepto Bismol. Same idea.
- More alcohol? This is often the "cure" that many with a "problem" will proclaim. This one is a tough one. Some swear by a Bloody Mary, but I think it's the beefy bouillon and the tomato juice that do more for you than the vodka in there.
- My personal all-time, no-fail, best-ever is a good, fizzy cocktail of Alka Seltzer. There's aspirin in there which takes care of that headache, and the stomach help, too. There are lots of other "home remedies" out there - I can't wait to hear some of them.
- Coffee is sometimes in there as hangover help, but coffee will dehydrate you even more. Besides, can you see straight enough to grind and brew it right now?
If I were you, take a couple of aspirin with a bottle of Gatorade, and go back to bed. That's the best thing.
