It's the day after St. Patrick's day - do you know where you left your green tights last night?!?!
Probably not. In fact, you don't even know where you just woke up right now and whose computer this is that you're using to read Slashfood! The only thing you do know, is that you have a killer hangover. Ugh.
Every person reacts differently to different alcohols, and as such, also responds better/worse/not at all to different hangover "cures." However, there is no doubt that you are thirsty. Sure, the thought of ingesting anything else in liquid form may send you doubled over back to the bathroom, but it's important to re-hydrate. Water is always a good, fresh solution, but there are others, with varying degrees of hangover help:
- Juices will probably re-hydrate you faster than plain water, and I don't know about you, but plain water the morning after actually makes me nauseated.
- Sports drinks like Gatorade are also a faster form of re-hydration. Don't think too hard right now because your brain is pounding, but it has something to do with electrolytes, okay?
- Milk and thicker creamier drinks help because they coat your stomach. Think Pepto Bismol. Same idea.
- More alcohol? This is often the "cure" that many with a "problem" will proclaim. This one is a tough one. Some swear by a Bloody Mary, but I think it's the beefy bouillon and the tomato juice that do more for you than the vodka in there.
- My personal all-time, no-fail, best-ever is a good, fizzy cocktail of Alka Seltzer. There's aspirin in there which takes care of that headache, and the stomach help, too. There are lots of other "home remedies" out there - I can't wait to hear some of them.
- Coffee is sometimes in there as hangover help, but coffee will dehydrate you even more. Besides, can you see straight enough to grind and brew it right now?
If I were you, take a couple of aspirin with a bottle of Gatorade, and go back to bed. That's the best thing.

i've never tried it, but my brother-in-law swears that a doobie, and espresso, and back to bed is the best combo he's ever found. and i trust his word on this topic.

I usually eat something like a bowl of cereal, and then drink water. Enough water to make me completely full. Then, I pee it all out and repeat.
And usually also go back to bed. I try to get hungover on the weekend so I don't have to worry about the repurcussions.

Full fried breakfast is the perfect solution. Bacon sandwich, fried egg, roast tomato - soaks it all right up and layers your stomach in a delicious covering of grease. And yeah, some fruit juice to top it off

How about avoiding a hangover altogether? I've been doing this since college and I haven't had a hangover in many, many years: drink a full large glass of water just before you go to bed (doesn't matter what time *that* would be), along with two forms of pain relief (I like ibuprofen, but acetominophin works just fine as well). Then, when you wake up in a couple hours to get rid of the products of that large glass of water, have another. Repeat once more and you'll wake up the next day sans hangover.

V8, the vegtable juice, is good for replacing the electolytes you pissed away the night before. Its loaded with sodium, but also potassium. Same theory as gatorade, I suppose.
Some people crave fast food the next day. I wonder if thats because of the sodium. The grease seems risky to me.
I crave full sugar Coca-Cola. Lots of it.

1. Ice-cold bottle of Pedialyte. Chug it.
2. Ibuprofen
3. McDonald's breakfast
You should feel good in about an hour after that.

When I got really drunk in college, one of my girl friends would leave 2 thick peanut butter sandwiches on my bed. When I got back, I would eat both before getting into bed. I think the sheer bulk of the sandwiches soaked up some of the alcohol. Needless to say, everytime I had those sandwiches after partying hard (5 or more drinks) I was never hungover.

Just drink lots of water before and after you go out to the bar. The water will help you from even having a hangover sometimes but just to be safe, drink at least two glasses afterwards.

If youre ridiculously hungover, take two multivatins and drink a buttload of water with it..the alcohol deprives you of nutrients that you would otherwise receive had you not gotten shit-faced.

Even though I have only gotten a hangover once (first time I drank, and it was Corona... needless to say, I hate Corona). One method I've used that I think prevents hangovers, and allows me to drink way more than I usually would, is when I go to a party I'll bring a large Poweraid or Gatorade, some small snackfood like crackers, and cigarettes. The sports drink keeps me hydrated and prevents the liver from shutting down(throwing up), the crackers absoarb some of the liquid to settle my stomach, and the cigarettes just keep the wateriness of my mouth in check.... I'm pretty sure other smokers know what I'm talking about.

Two things need to happen after a bender: you need to get your blood sugar up and you need to rehydrate. Best way to do that is 24oz of a sweet beverage (juice, gatorade, propel, etc) and a small carbohydrate loaded meal. Carbohydrates are complex sugars which will boost blood sugar fast, so do all that and pop two tylenol or advil or whatever and sleep it off. Also, don't buy that crap about eating bread or a sandwich to "absorb the alcohol." By the time you're ready to crash, the majority of it is already in your bloodstream.

To prevent a hangover: eat! Mcdonalds, pizza, something but not too much because that might encourage puking at that moment. I normally eat but i dont drink anything with it. Right before you hit the sack grab a bottle of water or fill up a huge glass with water and ice. its good when you wake up in the middle of night and just chug the whole thing.
To cure a hangover: asprin, water, and more food. eat a nice good breakfast like eggs and bacon. Eat it even if you don't think you can. It'll make you feel better!
