We've already mentioned the new yogurt product from Dannon, Activia, that claims that the live probiotic culture, Bifidus Regularis has been clinically proven to help regularte the digestive system. If you haven't guessed from the culture's scientific name, it keeps you, um, regular.
Well, at the danger of publicly humiliating myself, I have bought one package of the yogurt to test the product's claims, and even went so far as to purchasing the prune flavor for the added benefits of the dried plums. Taste wise, the yogurt is fine, and I've never tasted it with prunes, which is actually pretty good. As far as the results of the Bifidus Regularis? The packaging says that you have to eat it daily for two weeks, so I guess I have to go back to the market and get a second 4-pack.
I'll let you know how everything comes out. (No pun intended.)

I cannot associate what I experieced with anyhting else that I ate. SO, please be careful. I only took it because I thought the active ingredients might be beneficial to me..never again. Thanks for your comments too b/c the Dannon site says it will NOT cause diarrhea in people who do not have constipation. WRONG!!!

5-18-2006 @3:38PM Andrea said... I wanted to thank others for posting their comments. I searched for blogs on Activia because I was having side effects that no one else I know was having. I found out from this site that I am not alone. After only a couple of days of eating Activia yogurt, I developed pretty serious stomach cramps and diarrhea. I too thought it was a "transition period" and I continued to eat the yogurt. The more I ate, the worse my symptoms got. I ate one container per day for about three or four weeks. I stopped eating the Activia for two weeks and the cramping and diarrhea went away. However, my other symptoms of constipation and bloating returned. I decided that maybe I still needed the Activia, just less of it. For the past week, I have been eating one container of Activia every other day. The cramps and diarrhea have returned. Does anyone have any advice on how to balance out the benefits and side effects of Activia? The product obviously works, it just works too well for me.

I purchased a 4-pack of each flavor at a Walmart Superstore and also a double pack so that I can use it for the full two weeks. I ate one (peach) and within 30 minutes it started to push out anything that I ate that morning. We shall see what happens at the end of two weeks combined with a switch in my diet and additional cardio and Pilates

I can't believe, the advertisement says "improvement in two weeks"...it's been exactly that, and what a difference! I've lost about 5 lbs! I shall use it every day! Thank you!

My son ate it for a few days and had severe nausea and vomitting. It took three to four days for our systems to return to normal. We usually eat plain yogurt, and I'm wondering if our intestinal flora wasn't already sufficient.
I just want to warn those whose digestive systems are already pretty healthy, don't mess with a good thing.

It started out with "gurgly guts" and I have had diarrhea for the past two days. Enough so, I'm afraid to sneeze! I was eating 2 containers a day,I believe the "research" said that people experienced the best results with three. I, too, am concerned about the sugar content, because I've limited carbs for the past three years.
I think I need to go get the Amodium like someone suggested.

I eat normal yogurt with L. acidophilus, and it keeps me plenty regular (I do have occasional stomach problems, mind you). Those of you having upset stomach after eating this yogurt--does it happen with other yogurt varieties? If so, you could simply be lactose intolerant, in which case you should stay away from dairy of any kind, "regularis" or not.

I am just trying it now and am having some problems. Are there any warnings we should know that are not listed. How is Activia different from other yogarts?

6-08-2006 @2:10AM dot said... So, let me get this straight, Activa has MORE bifidus than regular yogurt? So much MORE that it helps your digestive tract MORE than regular yogurt? I have been eating an organic yogurt with "live" bacteria (bifidus and acidofolus) for years now. It has all the same stuff- right? How do you KNOW Activa has more??? How is it so different? Is it because they added "Regularis" to the end of the phrase? Help me out here... I can't help but feel this is simply a HUGE marketing gimmick. Imagine, everyone with intestinal problems in the US and Canada (other countries??? France???) rushing to their local grocer and purchasing the four pack of Active and eating it daily for at least two weeks...Imagine how that would lift some nice profits.

You don't need a yogurt machine to make home-made yogurt. Yes, I am a diabetic. P.S. Even better are the Greek Yogurts as they are more concentrated (in my opinion).
