We love a bit of cheese here at Slashfood and can appreciate a cheesy on-screen moment. By
“cheesy” we don't mean B-movies with low production value. We're talking about the real thing: creamy,
tangy, smelly and - most importantly - edible cheese. Here is a rundown of some of our favorite cheesy movie moments
and facts.
- The cheese-loving (albeit clay) star of Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit has brought notoriety to several British cheeses, including Wensleydale and Stinking Bishop. Production of Wensleydale more than quadrupled after it was featured in one of their animated short films.
- The voice of Wallace, Mr. Peter Sallis, does not like cheese. He doesn't mind pretending that he likes it, however, so fans of the claymation duo don't have to worry about Wallace swearing off cheese just yet.
- Monty Python's Cheese Shop Sketch is not exactly a movie, but it is still available on DVD. This sketch is one of the most popular Python sketches of all time, featuring a rather unusual cheese shop that is notable for its cleanliness and rather odd proprietor, but not for much of anything else.
- Though it wasn't caught on tape, Marlon Brando's second wife had a lock put on their fridge to help give the actor some self-control when it came to late-night snacking and the household staff awoke one morning to find the lock broken and teeth marks on a round of cheese (I wonder what kind it was).
- It may not be strictly about cheese, but we definitely learned something about how to order a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in - or should we say Royal with Cheese - from John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction
- The main character (as "protagonist" is not really an accurate descriptor) in the cinematic masterpiece that is Freddy Got Fingered actually works in a cheese sandwich factory. You can see his... unusual... cheese helmet pictured above.
On second thought, Freddy Got Fingered probably belongs in the B-movie category. Probably below it.
