PETA says pigs should get lottery winnings too

Last week, eight workers at a ConAgra pork processing facility in Lincoln, Nebraska, won $365 million in a Powerball drawing. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recently contacted the eight winners and asked them to donate a small share of their winnings to improving the lives of pigs that have been rescued from slaughterhouses or 4-H fairs. PETA argues that pigs are what formed the livelihood of the workers and that the animals should be re-payed somehow.

Check this out: http://www.goveg.com/factoryFarming.asp The video is pretty sick... I can't believe people can be that cruel. Maybe they should donate some of the money, at least to eliminate some of the stuff document on this video. I'm really shocked...

Yes, they know damn well some of the stuff they put out is INSANE, however they ALWAYS get the reaction they want, this blog is proof of that. The fact is that this group is a MASTER at this stuff, they put out things like this, knowing and MEANING to tick people off, start arguments, and it ALWAYS WORKS. This is why they are so successful, they are extremely well established on how to start dialogs, many people who join the group come from blogs just like this, they dont believe in bad publicity, it is psychologically briliant.

Enough of the psychology stuff though. My personal opinion is that they do have valid points with factory farming. My first encounter of what happens in a slaughter house came from the INDEPENDENT Discovery Channel network. The cruelty is pretty bad in these places, and we should object to this treatment of animals on an ethical and spiritual bases. After watching this on Discovery, I stopped eating Beef and Pork totally, and I'm better off for it!

Oh, and if you think what PETA did was wrong, keep it to yourself, your not going to make a difference by commenting on an article not many people look at. Also, I fully support PETA, and I hope you guys will to one day.

What's more insane: people who would like to end the suffering, abuse and murder of other living beings, or the people who support it for unnecessary wants? Yes, sometimes PETA has to do some fairly crazy things to get peoples attention, otherwise they never notice. It takes some extreme actions to snap people out of their daydreaming and get them to wake up to the abuses we commit or possibly unknowingly support. How have PETA lied? I'd love to hear an example. And hypocrites? Because they are asking the lotto winners to support the animals that gave their lives to give the workers a paycheque. It's not hypocritical when the actions you take are consistent with your beliefs. I just never understand how an organization who's mission is to alleviate suffering is vilified. The nay-sayers should really take a close look at themselves and wonder why they are being so defensive.

PETA SUCKS the big one for sure, They preach all this animal rights BS, but then you find out that their members collect pets and kill them in a van and them dump them in a city dumpster. ANIMALS DONT HAVE RIGHTS, cept to be served up with gravy and fried taters. Go on over to the peta 2 message board,, you will find a lot of misguided teens, that havent got a clue about the real word,, they have no life, or friends, so they fall back on 4 legged friends.

sadly, it's often the animal protection groups that are the only ones who would recognize an injustice (such as beating chilren) way before it's time.
we have child protection/labor laws now, and we have animal protection groups to thank for it.
womens shelters, also have recognized the link.
the fact is, animal abuse rarely stops there.

After being anally electrocuted it IS possible to be skinned alive, because many of the animals are not killed, simply stunned. I do NOT only rely on Peta for my information, and many of it's members know that some of it's information is exaggerated. I am also not some misguided teenager. I probably graduated high school before many of you were born.

Do you know why it's more profitable to skin a dead animal? Common sense tells me that waiting for an animal to die would simply be wasting time. If they inject them with hormones because they can't wait for them to fatten up, do you really think they're going to pay their employees to stand around and humanely kill animals? Did you know many slaughter house employees are required to wear hockey like helmets to prevent them from being kicked in the face? Many slaughterhouses are assembly line processes and if you think they're going to shut down the entire process because one animal woke up after simply being stunned and not killed, then I have a beach house in palm springs I'd like to sell you.
My parents grew up on farms, and many of my aunts and uncles make their living in the "farming" industry. I've personally seen a cow wake up while it was being slaughtered, gurgling because it was choking on it's own blood. The sound it made, or tried to make cause most of it's throat was slashed, was the most haunting thing I've ever heard. It definately wasn't the heart-warming moo from a see and say. All while the rest of the animals sat, watched, and waited their turn.
oh by the way, chickens squeal like little girls when they're dumped into scalding water to remove their feathers. Close your eyes and you could mistake it for a 3 year old.

And thanks Pete, but I'm not trying to ban everything associated with animals. I simply don't believe in treating animals inhumanely.

Come on people, PETA did not harass these people with threats and stalking, they simply asked them to share their winnings and help out covering the costs of NOT torturing animals that were born into hell. Does anyone here actually have any knowledge of the completely unnecessarily disgusting conditions of slaughterhouses, or the treatment they get? Maybe before jumping all over a group for doing something as innocent and simple as asking for donations, you should read up on the topic beforehand. After all, have you ever left a comment about the Breast Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association, telling everyone how selfish and horrible they are for asking for money to help fund their cost? Just because you don't value all life doesn't mean that others don't. So before throwing your opinion at people, maybe take into consideration that some people do this out of religious or moral beliefs and respect for all life.
