Your Secret Servant for entertaining

We're doing a wee bit of early spring cleaning around here, and I stumbled across a cookbook called Your Secret Servant copyrighted in 1970 (Yes! you can order a used copy from Amazon for $1.15!). This little paperbak book is making me laugh out loud every time I turn the page.

It is a cookbook for entertaining with hors d'ouevre, and the "secret servant" is actually your freezer. The authors put together recipes that can be frozen ahead of time, all to be simply defrosted on the day of your party, so you don't have to call a caterer. The book itself is an amusing read, but the thing that got me was the sticker on the front - "Compliments of the Buffalo Savings Bank." My mom got this book as a gift from her bank!

So far, my favorites are: Pineapple Pate, Bologna Wedgies (they are reall called "Wedgies!"), and Tuna Nuggets, which has a disclaimer at the end of the recipe, "has a mild fishy taste." Of course, there are about a half-dozen variations on the cheese ball.
