Volvic has always been my personal favorite as far as bottled waters go. Conversely, I've never found a
flavored water or "fruit water" that I liked. So, naturally, I'm a little curious about Volvic's new offering
in that field.
According to a recent BevNET review, the lemon flavor is "plagued by bitterness," but the orange version is much better. It is sweetened, making each bottle worth 60 calories. According to BevNET, there's also a slightly unpleasant aftertaste due to preservatives (potassium benzoate). Another review is available on DooYoo.
Overall, I'm a bit skeptical of these drinks, as most I've encountered just taste like a watered down version of something else. We'll see.

A few years ago (when the first version was released in France), I tried both the lemon and orange flavors (the other didn't exist by then), and I just loved them! they were flavored, but barely sweetened (you couldn't taste any sweeteness, so I guess they added some sugar or sweetener - I don't remember which one - to diminue the bitterness, since it's flavored with the fruit's skin extracts): it really was delicious. But then they suddenly changed the recipe by adding more sweetness to the drink (and issued more flavors too: now I think it's really disgusting!

I've been searching for flavored water in the US for almost a year, trying to find a brand that came close to Volvic. Most flavored water in the US are heavily sweetened with Splenda or other artificial sweeteners and are way too sweet for my taste. So when I finally found that Volvic flavored water was available in America I was excited. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. It seems that the water is much, much sweeter than I remember, and only two flavors are available. I always thought the Volvic flavored waters that I had in France were unsweetened and only contained water and fruit flavor. Perhaps Volvic added the sugar to please the American consumer. At least they didn't use high fructose corn syrup.

It isn't over powering or anything. A friend of mine had it and I took a taste and surprisingly loved it. I never would have thought I would buy Pear water but leave it to actually tasting good to get me hooked on an oddity. I think they have a website somewhere. I might look for it now.
