The Butter Wizard

Temperature Controlled Butter DishTo be filed under gadgets you probably managed perfectly alright without thank you very much. But here it is the world's only temperature controlled butter dish.

As a temperature controlled butter dish is both heats and cools regardless of ambient temperature thus ensuring your butter stays at the perfect temperature for spreading. I actually think it looks OK; about as trendy as a temperature controlled butter dish could be without resorting to garish colours. It has its own recharging station and keeps butter at the right temperature for up to 2 hours once charged. It can accommodate a 250g block of butter.

Cost is £34.95 plus UK delivery.

When we discussed it, we found that both of us leave the normal butter dish out on the counter in the wintertime when it's cool enough for the butter not to melt. When it gets warmer I have to move mine back to the fridge where it's too hard to spread on soft breads.

I've only had the butter wizard in the winter, but it seems to work. The butter is cool, firm, but not too hard. When the seasons change I'll see how it keeps up with warmer kitchen.

The battery powered cordless aspect is probably not necessary. I think if it just had a bit of thermal mass it could be just fine it you moved it to the table while dining then back on the stand to get power again.

Think of it as a wine chiller for your butter. A small, special purpose refrigerator that keeps one thing at optimum temperature and separate from all the other foods in the fridge. I'm thinking that peanut butter might benefit from the same treatment.
