I couldn't help myself on the last few cookies that were left in a batch of heart-shaped sugar cookies meant to look like those little candy conversation hearts. While they normally say things like "I love you" and "Be mine," these were the sayings that kept popping into my head. And no, it's not that I'm a bitter old maid. I'm a bitter young maid.
They're just made from any standard sugar cookie recipe meant to be rolled and cut. I added food coloring, even though I usually like to stick with simple, more natural colors that come from chocolate, vanilla or fruit. They may have slightly obnoxious sayings, but I still wouldn't give someone a brown valentine!

I LIKE THE IDEA OF JUST COLORING YOUR SUGAR COOKIES. I ALSO FEEL THAT YOU CAN ALSO BE AS SWEET OR AS NASTY AS YOU LIKE.

Young or old, isn't bitter maid another word for dried up prune?
