Unhealthiest recipe ever?

snicker's pie chef Worrall ThompsonThis particular dessert deserves a place of honor on the list of the worst foods you can eat. Snickers Pie, an ultra-rich dessert developed by Chef Antony Worrall Thompson (pictured), has over 1250 calories per slice and over 100 grams of fat. Though the chef himself has written a book advocating healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle, he insists that customers willingly and knowingly put taste before healthy in restaurants and that they deserve to "get their taste-buds tickled." He insists that the dessert is meant to be an occasional snack for children, but with over half the recommended daily amount of calories for an adult in each serving, it still seems difficult to recommend it. It's easier (and healthier) just to eat a Snickers bar alone.

Nevertheless, here's the recipe for those who are curious.

Snicker's Pie*
(recipe from BBC Food)
1 package puff pastry
140g/5oz mascarpone cheese
110g/4oz cream cheese
50g/2oz sugar (superfine, preferably)
3 eggs
5 Snickers bars, chopped up

  • Preheat the oven to 400F.
  • Roll pastry to 1/4 inch thick and use to line an 8in pie pan.
  • Beat the mascarpone cheese, cream cheese and sugar together in a large bowl, until smooth.
  • Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  • Add the Snickers bars and fold in.
  • Pour mixture into pie pan, spreading to the edges.
  • Place in the oven for 10 minutes, then lower temperature to 350F for a 25 minutes more, until golden and set.
  • Allow to cool before serving.

I love tasty treats. If I ate 2 slices of this pie and nothing else in a day's time, I wouldn't gain weight. If I ate more, I would. Choices.

Induldging in something like this once in a while isn't going to give you a heart attack then and there...only if you ate a slice a day..so enjoy!!

Greetings from Scotland (Inventor of the deep fried Mars bar!) Sorry but this recipe sounds disgusting - the River Cafe chocolate cake /pudding is a lot closer to my idea of chocolate pudding heaven; either that or Nigella Lawson's molten chocolate puddings. Amusing article in todays Guardian though 'I baked a Snickers Pie' :

It's tangy but not overly cheesey, so if you were thinking this, the pie certainly won't taste of cheese. It must be available in the US - it's available in delis here, but now all the supermarkets stock it, along with ricotta, mozarella...
