I am a big fan of the Iron Chef shows, both the
American version and the original, Japanese version. The shows are a culinary competition between two outstanding and
acclaimed chefs. One, of course, is an "Iron Chef" - a standing competitor and always the favorite, rather
like the home team in sports. The challenger is a restaurateur or chef that cooks against one of the Iron
Chefs to see "whose cuisine reigns supreme." The dishes must feature a theme ingredient that is revealed to
competitors at the beginning of the show, though I have heard that they are presented with several potential
ingredients in advance. During the "battle", which lasts one hour, the chefs must prepare 5 dishes,
which are almost always unusual, innovative and elaborately plated. Once the battle has come to an end, the dishes are
tasted and judged on taste, creativity and presentation by a panel of judges, which can include a variety of critics,
writers and actors.
Bobby Flay is one of the American Iron Chefs. He also updates his own site fairly frequently, announcing various news items and when they are filming new episodes of the Iron Chef. Recently, he mentioned that this season will feature a battle including some of the other Food Network celebrity chefs, namely Giada deLaurentiis and Rachael Ray. They will be pairing up with Bobby and Mario Batali, respectively. I would be inclined to think that Bobby has the advantage with Giada, who formerly worked at Spago, on his side, but perhaps Rachael will surprise us. She certainly has a knack for quickly-cooked meals. There is no known air date for this celebrity chef battle, yet.

Can Rachel Ray cook without talking? You know, that might actually be nice.

Maybe I should show her how to feed America. Plus, she never SHUTS UP. Take a breathe please and she cross contaminates everything because she lets it touch this plate or board and never washes her hands. Iron Chef is great but leave mouth old mighty out. PLEASE!

1-19-2006 @12:58PM I miss Jamie Oliver said... I would like to see how that idiot Emeril will do on Iron Chef. Can that humpback go thru a preparation without a BAM!!! or OH, YEAH BABE! and keep his eyes on what he is doing? He will lose terribly on presentation. Why is he always humped over with his head down in the cooking? Can you imagine how much spit and hair must fall into his cooking? Also will he cue in Doc and the band to play?
Another fake is that Sandra "Semi-Ho" Lee, HA! Can anyone imagine her on Iron Chef? She will spend half of the time decorating the damn kitchen stadium to match her outfit making it really really tacky looking as she is and the food.... UGH!!! The testers will vomit along with the viewers at home.
I would love to see Jamie Oliver and Paula Deen on the program.
Go Rachel!!! You are perky but at least you aren't arrogant like Booby (pun intended) Flay. Are they going to smear Vaseline on the lenses when Giada is on?

I went to Morimoto last year for Valentines day and it was good, but not worth the cost. What is Cat Cora's record now? It was rather disappointing that she started out 1-1.

IF one is watching something they DON'T like intently engough to GRAPHICALLY complain are they watching because they are being forced to. AH, thats it! No feelings of personal power or control. Perhaps this is something that requires PROFESSIONAL HELP, TAKE A PILL!

Her constant flow of patter is engaging and relaxing, and she seems to have so much fun doing, well, just about anything. I think this world could use more people who just enjoy life as much as she does.

Especially, Rachel & Paula Deen (not mentioned yet)...they are all extremely talented & Emeril wouldn't own as many restaurants as he does if he was "an idiot". This is a tough industry to make it in and they have all been very successful. For those of you are uncertain about what the Culinary Arts are all about, I say give them a break & avoid clicking on websites that are food related (apparently they aren't for you).

Each "chef/cook" may it be: Giada deLaurentiis, Rachael Ray, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, Paula Deen, Sandra Lee, Jamie Oliver, Cat, Emeril, or Alton Brown, brings a different, yet unique way of helping to prepare and expand our food/kitchen knowledge.
To the critics: It is amazing that you have actually watched enough of each of the shows to know what “faults” you have time to point out.
Although I like to call them “Character Traits”.
May we all be so lucky to come to your "job" if you have one, and point out your faults. OH! Then we can create a message board and tell how awful your performance was!
-As for Giada..Yes, she uses too much garlic. But then again this is not vampire 101. It is Italian cooking! Now that’s Italian!
-Rachael- Yes, she talks. But she would look kind of stupid staring into the camera for 30 min. Be it 30min. meals, $40 a day or the "dish". She's there to inform. So wait 30 min. and another show will be on.
-Paula uses too much butter. However, this is not called "low carb and lovin' it" that’s another show. She cooks like our "Southern Moms" cook. With Love. -And if you missed it. She actually did a "healthy" show. Only used 1 stick of butter!
-Sandra- It is semi-homemade. If she can help coordinate your kitchen and your dinner, then more power to her.
-Alton:. Well, Kids/Adults, there’s nothing wrong with putting that science/biology/physics/chemistry/math/history, that you ignored in school, to good use.
-As for Cat, Bobby, Mario, and Emeril.
Wow! "Class Acts"."Bravo"."Excellent". And those who are criticizing? Well, I don't see them on Television.
Once again, to those on the Food Net Work who give of your time and talents. Thank You.
** Let’s not forget what Julia Child taught us when her entr?fell on the floor, picked it up and placed it back on the plate. “Remember, You’re the only one in the kitchen”. Bon Appetite!***
