How Early is Too Early for a Drink

glass of wineA friend took the day off this past Friday to make his a four-day weekend. Since he wasn't at work, he would be able to make it to any of few Happy Hours around the westside that he usually can't make because he works in downtown LA. By the time he leaves his office, fights traffic along the !0-west and arrives at any westside bar, it's always almost 8:30 - at least an hour and a half past the appointed end of happy hour.

So, he convinced me to go grab a few drinks during happy hour and asked if it would be alright for us to go right when it starts at 4:00 PM? Is that too early

What a silly question. Is there really such a thing as "too early?" Happy hour starts at 4:00 PM in most places, and if it started any later, it wouldn't be very happy. Lula Cocina, a Mexican restaurant in Santa Monica, has happy hour every day, including weekends, from 1:00 PM. During the week, who doesn't have a glass of wine during lunch? And on the weekends, don't we often drink a Mimosa or Bellini at brunch, or have a Bloody Mary for breakfast?

The earliest I've had a drink is a glass of Riesling with my scrambled eggs for breakfast at 8:00 am.
