MSN's report on the Worst Foods to Eat got us to thinking about what our list might be. MSN has nothing on us here at Slashfood. While we think that living a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle is a great choice, unlike MSN “health” advisors, we don’t think it’s the only way to live. We put on our Slash Foodie un-scientifical research hats and here are our picks for 8 of the worst foods you can eat:
- Deep fried Snickers or Mars bars - This "snack" packs over 450 calories and about 30 grams of fat, and a king size will deliver more than 700 calories and 44 grams of fat. What's more disturbing is that some pubs plate them with a side of fries and call them lunch.
- Shelf stable “creamers” – Water, sugar or corn syrup solids and partially hydrogenated oils make up this shelf-stable faux cream. Need we say more?
- Pasteurized, processed cheese food - No, we don’t care how well they melt. These melty, spreadable, day-glo orange “cheeses” have to be labeled as “cheese food” because of the addition of preservatives and liquids. Yum.
- Burger King Chicken Fries – A tiny amount of chicken with four layers of breading, deep-fried in soybean oil 3 ounces of “fries” with dipping sauce, come up to 340 calories and 24 grams of fat, as well as 1020 mg of sodium per serving.
- Instant ramen noodles – Very high in both sodium and saturated fat On the plus side, there is little, if any sugar in these, though you’ll be reaching for something sweet to get the salt out of your mouth.
- Movie theater popcorn – popped in coconut oil and topped with “butter," a large size has about 20 cups of popcorn and almost three days worth of saturated fat.
- McDonald’s Sausage, Egg and Cheese McGriddle – only if you want to have over 50% of your recommended daily intake of fat, saturated fat and sodium in a 7 oz. (199 gm) sandwich.
- Super sized soft drinks – Huge drinks, like the 52-ounce X-treme gulp at 7-11, when filled with sugary sodas, can pack away over 600 calories each!

I've been on a diet for three weeks and only lost 2 lbs, I want to give up and go find one of those snickers bars now.

A fruit at perfect ripeness beats french fries any day. And you not only feel better physically right afterwards but long term also.

Do anything and you will lose weight. Be active and your body will respond. Eat a dozen doughnuts everyday. Staying active will burn those calories. Eat two deep fried snickers and go and play a game of tag with kids. It will burn the food off. Stop whining about restauants and the food they serve. It's not their fault your lazy.

People really should get the "whole" idea about what's good and what's not good to eat. Sure a candy bar has lots of fat calories and loads of sugar, but it's up to us on how we should maintain that consumption and use it wisely. If people get the whole truth about junk food and how to eat sensibly, maybe then people can get a better sense on diet and how to control it.

So one way or the other, the money balances out. It's just the decision of if you want to feel and look better. Personally, I think that questions easy.

It is appalling to see how many morbidly obese children there are in this country (and others). Until adults stop indulging in fried candy bars and other high-fat foods and start learning - and teaching their kids -about nutrition, they haven't got a chance to be at a healthy weight.

I do not eat this stuff and actually find myself eating so healthy sometimes I wonder why in the world I am still fat, I have two children and was heavy before I had them about 100 pounds lighter, but I was still very active and can outwalk most of my friends. I do allow my children to eat mcdonalds every great while but I do believe that you are a product of your environment and that the way we are raised with and introduced to food is what we are taught is healthy. Some people do not grow out of their habits as far as food is concerned, others however have to live with the effects in hopes that it takes no toll on their childrens lives or family.

God's not that cruel. That's a HUGE misconception only believed by certain religions but it is not written ANYWHERE in the Bible. Try reading it.

Everyone, in every freaking COUNTRY (not just the US, thank you very kindly) has the propensity to get really really fat when you eat crap like that! The FDA now says 7-13 servings of fruits and veggies a day. How the heck can you get all those in if you're stuffing your hole with undigestible, enzyme depleted, incredibly cancer welcoming crap? Get off your 'I hate Americans' kick or get the hell out!
