It may be the new year and I
might have just made some recommendations on how to rid ourselves of empty calories, but I still have to mention my
first taste of a Scotch egg at Ye Old King's Head, an English pub in Santa Monica, CA.
I remember first seeing this hard boiled egg covered with sausage, breaded then deep fried in Bon Appetit a few years ago. I kept thinking to myself that it was an absolutely brilliant little breakfast, and probably tastes awesome. I even went so far as to snip the recipe from the magazine, but alas, it has been stuck between protective plastic sheets in my "Breakfast/Brunch" 3-ring binder this whole time.
Now, I'm not going to say the Scotch egg is not healthy for you, since egg yolks are chock full of vitamins and egg whites and sausage provide protein. But let's be serious here. It's an egg. It's sausage. It's deep fried. And yes, yes the Scotch egg tastes awesome, especially dipped in whatever delicious hot brown gravy-like sauce that came with it.
Isn't there some rule about health being inversely proportional to taste?!?!

Instead of deep frying I baked mine and drained them well. My grandchildren did use them as portable breakfasts that day.
