It's the last working day before Christmas. And it would be wrong, wrong I tell you, to drink black coffee on a day like today. Here are a couple of simple ways to add some holiday spice and drama to your cup:
- Eggnog. Simple, delicious, already in your fridge. I suggest a ratio of 1:3 to 1:4 eggnog:coffee.
- White hot chocolate. Make it simple; just stir a handful of white chocolate chips into some heavy cream. You could even do it in the microwave. Suggested ratio: 1:3 white hot chocolate:coffee.
- Cinnamon. Find your spiciest blend and toss 1/2 tsp or more in your coffee as you're grinding the beans (or just shake some in your already-ground coffee when you put it in the filter). You'll add sweetness and that heady cinnamon aroma.
- Peppermint syrup. My favorite part of Christmas? Peppermint Mochas. Starbucks makes them way, way too sweet for my taste, though - I ask for the treat with 1/3 of the usual flavorings. Then I started making coffee at home with half-and-half and peppermint syrup. I suggest a ratio of 1:10 or more syrup:coffee.

(and a strong coffee, typically the 6-bean espresso blend from old city coffee in philly) if i'm feeling festive (which isn't likely - gimme that sweet alcoholated caffeine, never mind the frills) i'll stick a candy cane in it. and no spray whipped cream - barf!
