Bad foods to eat over your keyboard

We've all done it before--eaten at our computer. Perhaps we sneak a bagel in at work, or a muffin, or even a crunchy oatmeal bar. But have you ever tried cleaning your keyboard after years of crumbs have accumulated? It's not a pretty sight. TechRepublic has an article nominating the worst foods to eat while typing at your computer. Some of the winners were jelly, seeds, pasta, and flake bars. I'm sure there are even worse things to eat over a keyboard than what they missed, like chips.

At the end, they talk about some tips to clean your keyboard, including canned air, vacuuming, and using a dishwasher. What are some of your techniques to get out those pesky little crumbs?

Uh, at my old job, I would turn my keyboard upside down and shake. Then I'd bang it on the desk. I'm not sure that's what you're supposed to do though.

For my new job (that I like), I'll maybe get one of those cans o'air or something...

He used spray air to clean delicate components, and I used hot soapy water to clean the dismantled keys. Old toothbrushes are great for this. Then we piece it all back together and voila, a TRS-80, almost new!!!

He claimed, when I asked about the splashes everywhere, that he cleaned the keyboard by taking it in the shower with him...thanks for the visual, man.

Needless to say, that keyboard was never right again, whether it was the cola or the trauma of the shower, we'll never know.

At least they're cheap and easy to come by these days.
