I've been spending too much time thinking about Sandra Lee. So much, in fact, that I ended up throwing a pint of whipping cream in my grocery cart, thinking longingly of the white hot chocolate she'd "cooked" on her holiday special.
And when my sweet tooth and hunger got to a fever pitch tonight, I took some Callebaut white chocolate chips that were just sitting there in the cabinet, yearning to be consumed in a whirl of cocoa butter scented with sweet, sweet vanilla. I poured a half-cup of cream into a saucepan and added a big handful (maybe another half-cup) of my ivory-colored chocolate chips. I let that come barely to a simmer, then tossed in about two cups of milk (the recipe says half-and-half only - boy, that would be rich!), a bit of vanilla, and a few tablespoons full of malt (for malted milk).
While my milk concoction was heating up, I whipped the rest of the cream and flavored it with a bit of almond syrup. A mug of chocolate, a dollop of cream, a few sprinkles of peppermint candy, and I was in heaven. When my husband ran to the store later (exams tomorrow!) I asked him to get more cream. I can't wait until tomorrow night.
