Food Business Review Online recently ran a list of 'Ten trends to watch in packaged goods in 2006.' Things to watch out for include a greater number of food products enhanced with Omega-3's. According to their report, the number of products containing the beneficial fatty acids has more than doubled in the last few years. 'Superfruits' such as Brazilian acai, as well as pomegranates, mangosteens, guarana and noni will also be featured more heavily in the upcoming year. Whole grain products will continue to flourish as well. Other trends included drinking chocolates, gluten-free foods and reduced portion sizes from companies like Kraft and Kellogg.
