This blog, Baking For Britain, is my nomination for best new blog in the Food Blog Awards. This post typifies the excellent and engaging writing accompanied by gorgeous food-porn photography.
Anna writes about mince pies. I love a mince pie - with or without a dollop of flavoured thick cream - such intense and concentrated flavours wrapped in buttery pastry. If a slug of alcohol enlivens the experience all the better. Really mince pie epitomises the Spirit of Christmas to me.
The mince pie recipe in Baking For Britain attempts to replicate those, as originally made, with actual meat. A fascinating exercise.
For me the best mass-produced pies are the Duchy Originals. Removing that cellophane releases a wonderful spirity aroma.
