Soda Review: Diet Cricket Cola

diet cricket colaThe side of the bottle stated that I should “expect this to be good” before I tasted it. The Diet Cricket Cola contains a fair amount of green tea, which is listed as the second ingredient on the label, as well as the cola/kola nut extract expected in colas. I like both green tea and cola, but I had no idea what to expect from this soda because the pairing did not strike me as an obvious one.

The bottle assured me (it was an unusually helpful bottle) that the soda it contained would provide “a lift like the pick-me-up you get from eating a scrumptious piece of chocolate.” The chocolate-lift analogy is terrible because some drinkers might mistakenly assume the beverage has a chocolate flavor, which it doesn’t.

It actually has a sweet taste and the slightly grassy/spinachy flavor of green tea. The cola is not as strong a flavor as I expected or would have hoped for. I wouldn’t say that cola and green tea make a great pair, but the drink is certainly not bad. My only real complaint is that I could taste the Splenda sweetener, so I’ll keep an eye out for a non-diet version to compare this to.
