Jamaica’s Finest Ginger Beer is a soda with some kick. Though it is a soda, it is not very sweet and exceptionally gingery. Unlike some similar products, you can definitely taste the real ginger root that it is made with. Originally, ginger beer was fermented, but now is primarily available in non-alcoholic soda form. Modern ginger beer is similar to ginger ale, though much more potent.The manufacturers aren’t kidding when they say that this “burns going down,” though whether the slow heat of the ginger is unpleasant is a matter of personal taste. It’s a soda for sipping, not gulping down. I can definitely say that it is a fine remedy for a sore throat, though the burn and taste of the ginger will probably linger for some time. This is not a soda for the faint of heart, nor is it for someone who dislikes ginger. I really loved it and will unquestionably be drinking it again. Soon.

However, caution to anyone who wants to make a mixed drink with it - I added triple sec to some, and the gingery bang immediately vanished, leaving only vapid, tastely crap. I grew frightened and gave up.

I just picked up two jamaican varieties today to try out from my local asian / latin market -- DC and Goya. The DC seems more 'ale' than beer -- but nice because it has the taste of fresh green ginger. The Goya was sharp and burned a little. I liked it. I've had better, but Goya can be found almost anywhere a mexican grocery store is around. For some reason, the store around here usually have everything *BUT* their gingerbeer and I was surprised to see it (their coconut soda is great because although it is probably 100% artificial, you can taste the rind in the aftertaste).
I know this is already buried on the second page, but I'd be interested in others opinions of varities (and where to get them).
